From Death to Life

The 35 children seemed to bounce off the walls. These two inner-city Chicago clubs took place simultaneously. The community center where we met for 5-Day Club was very echoey, and I was sure it would be impossible to hear each other talk, let alone teach a Bible lesson. However, much to my surprise, the children sat quietly, listening to the teacher throughout the lesson, raising their hands to ask questions, and several responded to the Gospel invitation. One eight-year-old boy, who had surprised me by being the most respectful child in the group, came back after the lesson to ask how sin entered the world. We helped him find Genesis 3, and he began reading aloud. I had to fight back tears as this little boy read about the Fall for the first time in his life. His eyes widened and his voice broke a little as he asked, “So death happens because Adam and Eve sinned?” This little boy and others like him ultimately made professions of faith at these 5-Day Clubs. I’m so thankful for each child who will be able to look back on this summer as the season when their new lives in Christ began.
