What this website collects, what it doesn't, and who to ask about it.

The short version
This website does not use advertising trackers or visitor analytics, and it does not ask you to make an account. We only receive personal information when you choose to send it to us, and the only thing we keep is a message you send through the contact form.
We do not sell the information people send us through this website.
When you write to us
The contact form asks for your name, your email address, a phone number if you want to give one, what your message is about, and the message itself.
When you press send, two things happen. The message is saved in this website's database, where only signed-in members of the CEF Chicago team can read it, and a copy is emailed to the team's inbox. We use it to answer you and to follow up on what you asked about. We also record which team member first opened it and when.
A message stays in the database until a team member deletes it. You can ask us to delete yours at any time; see Your choices.
Two companies handle the message for us: Supabase stores the database, and Resend delivers the email copy. They handle it on our behalf, under their own privacy policies.
To keep automated programs from flooding the form, it checks how long the form took to fill in and how many messages have arrived recently. That check is not kept, and the form does not record your IP address with your message or show you a puzzle to solve.
If you email or phone us directly, we receive whatever you choose to share.
Giving and event registration
Gifts and event registrations are not handled on this website. The Give and Register buttons take you to our pages on Neon CRM, a separate service for nonprofits, which collects your details and processes any payment. Card numbers never pass through this website.
How Neon handles your information is described in Neon's own privacy policy, linked at the bottom of those pages.
What happens automatically
- Server logs. Like every website, the companies that host this one (Vercel for the pages, Supabase for stories, newsletters and contact form messages) receive technical details when your browser asks for a page, such as your IP address and browser type. These are used to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Story view counts. When you open a story we add one to its view count. To avoid counting you twice, your browser remembers which stories it has opened until you close the tab. Nothing about who you are is recorded.
- Cookies. Visitors are not given cookies by this website. Team members who sign in to manage the site get a sign-in cookie.
Content from other services
Some pages show content that is delivered by another company: our Facebook and Instagram feeds on the home page, and videos from YouTube, Vimeo or Box. When that content loads, the company that provides it can receive technical details about your visit and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy.
Links on this site that leave it, including our social media pages and CEF's national website, are covered by those sites' policies, not this one.
Children
Our ministry is for children, but this website is written for adults: parents, churches, volunteers and supporters. It is not meant to collect personal information from children under 13, and we ask that a parent or guardian be the one to contact us or register a child for a program.
If you believe a child has sent us personal information through this website, tell us and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can ask what information we hold about you from this website, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us using the details below and we will answer.
